Energy

The 3pm crash is data, not destiny

That mid-afternoon wall is your physiology reporting in. Here is how I read it with patients.

Late afternoon sunlight and long shadows across a wooden desk with a cup of herbal tea

Founders and athletes describe it the same way: the morning is sharp, then 3pm arrives and the day dims. I treat that crash as information. It usually points to sleep debt, blood sugar swings, or cellular energy running below capacity.

Rule out the simple things first

Before anything else we look at lunch composition, caffeine timing and last night's sleep. A protein-anchored lunch and an earlier caffeine cutoff resolve more afternoon crashes than any capsule.

Then support the machinery

When the basics are in place, we look at the cellular level — supporting the pathways your cells use to make and use energy is part of how I approach energy in my longevity practice.*

Your afternoon is a report card on your morning.

Common questions

Short answers to what patients ask most often.

What causes a 3pm energy crash?
Most often sleep debt, blood sugar swings after lunch, or cellular energy running below capacity. The crash is a report on the hours before it.
How do I stop the afternoon crash without more caffeine?
Start with a protein-anchored lunch and an earlier caffeine cutoff. Those two changes resolve more afternoon crashes than any capsule.
When are supplements worth considering for energy?
Only after sleep, lunch composition and caffeine timing are handled. Then supporting the cellular pathways that make and use energy becomes reasonable. These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration.
